Hippos are the third largest land animal on Earth, with only rhinos and elephants outweighing them. Adult male hippos can weigh up to 4,000 pounds. They live in the rivers and wetlands of Subsaharan Africa. They are mainly herbivorous but sometimes eat meat. Their biggest threats are lions and nile crocodiles.
