Tierpark Hagenbeck, a zoo in Hamburg, Germany, released images of its new resident: a baby polar bear. It was born on December 19, 2022, but has been kept in isolation with its mother for its first few months. While the cub isn’t currently part of an exhibit, the zoo is installing a video monitor inside the polar bear enclosure so that visitors can see it.

The last time a polar bear was born near Hagenbeck was this cub’s mother, in 2002. It was important to leave the pair in isolation as polar bear cubs are vulnerable in their infancy. They’re born blind, deaf, bald, and weigh approximately 1 pound.
